Folks poured their heart and souls into these pumpkins. The level of talent was beyond breathtaking. But it was not until years later while working at The Children’s Place did I realize how serious folks were about their pumpkins.Įach year we would have a friendly competition among the design team. Each year we would plan out our design, determine where to place it on the porch, and hope the candle would burn bright. Get sewing your blocks! So, it’s only fitting that I include a Jack O’Lantern quilt block in my blocks 2 quilt series.Įarly in my childhood, the official carving of a Jack O’Lantern became a fun night for the family. Once again, you will need 44 Dot Blocks, 5 “O” Blocks, and 4 “X” Blocks. And there’s the “X” Block, simple as that! Make 4 total. Sew the rows together and press seams toward the prints. It’s pretty much the same as the “O” Block from here on out. The appliqué strips I have made some times ago, tried them on another quilt but they did not work well with it.

The “X” Blockįor the “X” Block, you need six 2.5″ white squares, two 2.5″ x 4.5″ white rectangles, two 2.5″ x 6.5″ white rectangles, and nine 2.5″ squares of various prints. Sew the rows together, and press the seams. This will help you nest the seams in the next step. The “O” Blockįor the “O” Block, you will need six 2.5″ white squares, four 2.5″ x 4.5″ white rectangles, one 2.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle, and 8 2.5″ squares of a variety of prints. Make 44 of these, using a variety of prints for the center square. Press seams, and you have yourself a cute little Dot Block. Then sew the rectangles to the center strips. Sew the two white squares to the center print square and press seams. (44) 1.5″ squares- cut 5 of four of the prints and 6 of the rest White Cut List:įor each Dot Block, you’ll need two 1.5″ x 3.5″ white rectangles, two 1.5″ white squares, and one 1.5″ print square. A variety of pinks and reds will look fabulous! Fat Quarters Cut List: For these blocks, you will need 1.5″ and 2.5″ strips of each fat quarter and the solid white. Would you like to quilt along with us? We started with 8 fat quarters from Penny Rose’s Milk, Sugar, and Flower line, and 1.25 yards of our favorite off-white solid from Moda.

Today, we’ll share how to make each block, and in the coming weeks we will walk you through the project start to finish. We’ve also added an extra little block friend. Our original X and O blocks have been recreated with a different method and in a different size. For our mystery project, we’ve mixed it up a little.
